Can't Find Cakewalk Sound Center or Other VST Plug-ins

Last updated on 3/21/2016

In some cases, the Music Creator installation does not add the default VST plug-in folder path. If you do not see the Cakewalk Sound Center, Amplitube or other VST plug-ins when inserting an effect or synth, here are the steps you can take:

  1. Go to OPTIONS | GLOBAL | VST PLUG-INS

  2. If no path was listed and your VST plug-ins were installed to the default location, click the [ADD] button to add the folder path below:
    C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins

Note for x64 Users: If you use Windows Vista x64 or Win7 x64, add this path instead:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Vstplugins

  3. If you do not know where your new VST Plug-Ins are located, then we recommend re-installing the plug-ins and noting the default VST folder destination. You can re-install Cakewalk Sound Center by re-inserting your Music Creator 5 installation disc and choosing to do a selective installation, leaving only Cakewalk Sound Center checked on your installation list.

  4. Once you have added the correct path, check the boxes "Re-scan Existing" and "Re-scan Failed"

  5. Click the [Scan] button.
